University of Lucknow to introduce numerous developments in infrastructure, research ecosystem
The University of Lucknow has plans of transforming into a state-of-the-art research and multi-disciplinary education institution, once the ₹100 cr funding comes by.
The grant, under Pradhan Mantri Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (PM-USHA), will be "utilised for strengthening the research ecosystem of the university and ensuring the availability of all required infrastructure on the campus for students to avail multidisciplinary education" Vice Chancellor Prof Alok Kumar Rai stated.
The developments will include renovation of UG and PG classrooms, especially in the 100 yr-old Arts Quadrangle/Canning College. The historical Lal Baradari, nestled in the heart of the university, will also receive a facelift.
List of upcoming developments to be seen at LU:
While 50% funds will be utilised to bolster the research ecosystem, the remaining half will aid in making the required infrastructure on campus available for students. Thus, LU students will be able to avail the benefits of multi-disciplinary education.
To ensure this, a centralised research facility, categorised into three sections of life sciences research, physical sciences research and technical research, will be installed at the LU campus. Besides this, a cluster-computing facility will also be developed. Herein, tech-related work like making e-software for bioinformatics, stats, etc, could be carried out. High-speed WiFi will also be set up to ensure efficiency.
Additionally, a five-storey lecture theatre building, comprising 25 conference rooms with accommodation for 100 people each, has also been proposed to come up in the Atal block. "This five-storey building is proposed in the sprawling 30,000 square feet of land. There is a desperate need for lecture theatre buildings on campus which will enable the university to hold big national level examinations, conferences, conclaves, academic events and others,” the vice-chancellor explained.
Moreover, LU's sports infrastructure will be revamped and augmented with new tracks and courts for the young athletes.
