UP Govt to launch 'one tap, one tree' campaign; 5 lakh saplings to be distributed in rural areas
Uttar Pradesh government is all set to launch the 'One tap, One tree' campaign from July 1. As the name suggests, a free sapling will be distributed with every water tap connection in the rural areas of the state. The campaign is an attempt to achieve two targets under one initiative, expanding the state's green cover while ensuring more 'safe to drink' tap water across rural UP.
Campaign is being launched under the 'Har Ghar Jal' scheme
This unique initiative is a joint campaign launched by the Namami Gange Programme and Rural Water Supply Department. Under the campaign, saplings will also be planted outside homes that already have a tap water connection.
According to the government press release, around 40,000 tap connections are being provided to families in rural UP everyday. With free saplings provided with each of these new connections, the said campaign aims to achieve the target of distributing 5 lakh saplings in the first week, between July 1 and July 7.
Awareness drives will also be part of the campaign
Furthermore, the campaign won't be limited to distribution of free saplings. The government press release also states that Jal Samiti and other organization have also been tasked with conducting awareness drives in UP villages, educating people regarding the importance of planting trees and saving water.
