The iconic cultural and historical emblem of Lucknow — the Rumi Darwaza — will, from today, undergo a facelift. Vehicular movement around the monument will remain suspended till the restoration process is completed.

As per reports, the centuries-old structure now trembles everytime vehicles pass through it. Cracks have also developed on the 60-feet-tall site. Authorities have confirmed that Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) will take significant time to restore the heritage site, with the ETC marked sometime in June next year.

The incredible gateway, a fine quintessence of Awadhi architecture, was built by Nawab Asaf-Ud-Daula in 1784.

Localities who regularly or frequently take the route, take note.

Traffic diversions have been put in place, thus, with two ramp-like four-metre roads being constructed where the Gulab Vatika park used to be, for light vehicular movement. With this, pedestrian movement at the park would also be put on a halt.

Movement of heavy vehicles through the gate will, thereupon, remain on a standstill. The automobiles will have to take the Hardoi Road from near Kudiaghat via the road adjacent to the new pucca bridge. Heavy vehicles arriving from the Chowk side will move from the Rumi Gate Police Chowki intersection to the new Pucca Pul via the right Bandha Road. Those travelling from Daliganj to Chowk will pass through the new Pakka Pul via Teele Wali Masjid.
