A second chance! US Consulate in Mumbai reopens visa appointments after pandemic chaos

The US Consulate General in Mumbai has announced to resume routine visa appointments for all categories, previously halted due to the upheaval of the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to the Immigrant Visa Unit at the US Consulate General Mumbai, all applicants whose appointments were cancelled during the pandemic have been given instructions on how to reschedule. The objective is to mitigate delays in visa processing, address the backlog of applications and assist those who desire to travel to the United States.

Beyond mere rescheduling, the Consulate is now accepting 221(g) submissions for all visa categories. This process allows applicants the opportunity to submit any additional documents required for their visa applications, thereby ensuring a smoother visa approval process.

For those seeking immigrant visas, the process involves being sponsored by either a US citizen or lawful permanent resident or by a prospective US employer with an approved petition from USCIS.

Following the green light from USCIS and the completion of pre-processing with the National Visa Center (NVC), applicants can follow instructions outlined by the NVC and the Consulate's website. Furthermore, the Kentucky Consular Center (KCC) extends its guiding hand to those selected in the Diversity Visa Lottery, ensuring their visa processing sails ahead unabated.
