In a bid to boost COVID inoculation activities in Mumbai, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation on Thursday, flagged off 5 new vaccination centres. These centres will operate from 9 AM to 5 PM, in limited capacities, i.e, while walk-ins are permitted (for the second dose), the administration of COVID jab will depend on the availability of stocks. As of today, the vaccination booths in Mumbai are working with only a 20% walk-in allotment.

The BMC has opened 5 new vaccination centres in Mumbai to push the nationwide inoculation drive here. All adults can now get their COVID dose at Najam Baug at Dongri, the Jain Temple at Zaobawadi, Saifee Ambulance Polyclinic near Paranjapol Health Post, SK Patil in Malad and KMJ Phule in Vikhroli.

COVAXIN will also be available here and walk-ins are allowed only for the second dose, the municipal body highlighted. Other beneficiaries can receive the jab only with prior registration and slot confirmation through the Co-WIN portal.

Mumbai also opened its jumbo centres on Wednesday to ensure rapid vaccination amid the looming threat of second wave infection. This also helped to resume the inoculation programme for the 45 plus age group that was suspended earlier due to a shortage of stocks.

Besides this, the phase 3 vaccination segment, for people aged between 18-44 years, also ran its regular course here. Around 53,559 vaccine jabs were administered in the city on Wednesday, including all adults. So far, the city has managed to attain 25,71,136 vaccinations.

Mumbai's COVID statistics

Meanwhile, the COVID case tally surged by 3,882 on Wednesday in Mumbai. The total aggregate caseload stands at 6,65,057 infections now. It was also noted that recoveries surged higher than fresh cases in the last 24 hours. About 4,093 people were declared COVID-free on Wednesday, pushing the total recuperation count to 5,93,664.

This suggests an 89.3% recovery rate in the city which has left about 56,153 patients as active cases. The virus toll, on the other hand, scaled by 6 casualties on Wednesday to a total of 13,511 deaths.
