After a brief respite from torrential downpours that brought Mumbai to a standstill, the city is gearing up for another round of heavy rainfall. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Yellow Alert for Mumbai and Thane from Thursday through Saturday, signalling the likelihood of moderate to heavy showers in the coming days.

Moderate to heavy rainfall expected

On Wednesday, the Santacruz observatory recorded 4 mm of rain, while the Colaba station registered 3 mm between Tuesday and Wednesday morning. The eastern suburbs experienced the highest rainfall with 6 mm in 24 hours, followed by 3.42 mm in the city and 3.83 mm in the western suburbs. Despite the slight drizzle, hot and sultry conditions prevailed, with temperatures reaching nearly 32°C.

However, meteorologists warn that the intensity of the showers is expected to increase from Thursday. The IMD has issued yellow alerts for Mumbai, Thane, and Raigad, and an orange alert for Sindhudurg and Ratnagiri for later in the week. These alerts indicate the likelihood of heavy to very heavy rainfall and potential waterlogging.

IMD Chief Sunil Kamble urged residents to exercise caution, avoid waterlogged areas, and stay updated with official weather advisories. With the monsoon in full swing, authorities are on high alert to manage any potential flood situations and ensure public safety.
