Kanheri Caves Trail

This trail ultimately leads to the Kanheri Caves, a renowned ancient Buddhist site located within the Sanjay Gandhi National Park in Borivali, Mumbai. It offers a unique blend of nature and history amid greenery of the national park. The trail is relatively easy, making it suitable for people of various fitness levels, including families and casual hikers.

The caves consist of more than a hundred rock-cut chambers carved into the basalt rock, serving as monastic dwellings, prayer halls, and meditation spaces for Buddhist monks over the centuries. Visitors can explore the various chambers, stupa remnants, and water cisterns within the complex while soaking in the tranquil ambiance of this historic site.

Sinhagad Fort Trail

Check out this challenging trail leading to Sinhagad Fort near Pune, a popular trekking route offering stunning views of the landscape, including lush greenery, rugged terrain, and historic ruins. The trekking route starts from old Katraj’s Tunnel Top and is highly-recommende by trekkers.

Along the trail, you'll find various eateries and stalls selling refreshments, making it a pleasant experience for trekkers. The fort itself boasts a rich history dating back to the 17th century, when it was initially built by the Maratha warrior king, Shivaji Maharaj.

Karnala Fort Trail

The Karnala Fort trek begins at the entrance of the bird sanctuary on a well-defined road and winds through the forest. There are multiple routes inside the sanctuary that lead to the main trail up to the mountain and offer a variety of fauna. Situated along the Mumbai-Goa highway, it is at a distance of about 10 km from the city of Panvel. 

The trek to the top is a little challenging but thoroughly enjoyable and the fort provides a comfortable perch to rest and have lunch. After a final walk up to the bastion, one is presented with a splendid 360-degree view of the surrounding Raigad district.

Mulund Peak Trail

Nestled near Mulund Colony, lies a captivating trail that delves deep into the heart of the Sanjay Gandhi National Park. This scenic route encompasses Mulund Peak and Cyprus Hills, offering sweeping panoramic vistas of the surrounding landscape. The environment here is predominantly lush and verdant, boasting a rich diversity of flora and fauna.

For those keen to embark on this adventure, reaching the trailhead is a breeze, with an array of public transportation options available. The Pipe Line bus station and Mulund Colony bus station serve as convenient starting points.

Vetal Tekdi Trail

Vetal Tekdi is a popular for hiking, offering panoramic views of Pune and the surrounding areas. The trail to Vetal Tekdi starts from various points around the hill, with common ones including the ARAI hill base, Pashan-Sus Road, and Law College Road.

As you ascend Vetal Tekdi, you'll be surrounded by lush greenery and diverse flora, providing a refreshing escape from the hustle and bustle of urban life. Along the way, keep an eye out for various species of birds and butterflies that inhabit the hill, adding to the natural beauty of the surroundings.
