Following frequent complains, MMRDA renames three stations on metro lines 2A and 7
There is no doubt that the newest metro lines 2A and 7 are helping residents with a faster commute. However, people travelling along the 2A corridor are left boggled by the naming of the stations. Travellers tend to get confused when faced with names such as Oshiwara, Lower Oshiwara, Pahadi, Lower Malad and a barrage of others.
Acting upon the suggestions of passengers, Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has renamed three stations on metro lines 2A and 7.
Renamed stations for better comprehension
Commuters demanded that names of a few Metro stations be changed to popular nomenclature, or at least be mentioned with popular names in brackets. They had even rued that Valnai and Pahadi Goregaon station were unheard of, and created confusion. After much consideration on the proposal for the names, the authorities have approved the change. Following the suggestions, the three renamed stations are as follows:
Pahad Eksar Metro station, on Metro Line 2A, has been renamed to Shimpoli.
Valnai station, also on Metro Line 2A, has been renamed to Valnai-Meeth Chowky, reflecting the popular local name for the location.
Pahadi Goregaon station on Metro Line 7 has been renamed to Bangur Nagar.
