Good news for Bandra residents! Underground parking proposal for Patwardhan Garden shelved

Locals in Mumbai's Bandra area breathed a sigh of relief as an area official announced the cancellation of plans to construct an underground parking lot near Raosaheb Patwardhan Garden. The recent announcement ended months of uncertainty and concern among residents.

The proposed parking lot, which was to accommodate 228 cars at an estimated cost of ₹74 crores, had faced strong opposition from locals since its inception in March 2023. Khar residents and regular walkers welcomed the news, noting that locals had feared the parking lot would bring increased traffic, noise, and pollution.

BMC officials confirmed that the tender was not revived after its extension in February, citing local resistance and legal challenges. This marks the second time in recent years that plans for underground parking in the area have been shelved due to community opposition.
