A luxe Rajasthani haveli in the midst of Bandra: Here's all about the breezy Joshi House
Looking for a perfect date night with your boo? Nothing can get better than Joshi House. Seated on a bustling Pali Hill lane in Bandra, Joshi House stands as an ageless sanctuary. Inspired by the grandeur of a traditional Rajasthani haveli, Bandra's Joshi House ditches loud and glitzy interiors, in favour of a breezy bohemian courtyard.
The ceiling is adorned with mosaics, the balustrades are marble, there’s a small fountain, and there’s plenty of lush greenery. Overall, the vibe isn’t that of a restaurant at Joshi House; it’s more like a luxurious monochromatic home of a travel-obsessed foodie.
The aesthetics will blow away your mind!
Bathed in serene tones of white complemented by vibrant splashes of color and luxurious furnishings, the restaurant exudes a distinctive ambiance reminiscent of Rajasthan.
The themed private rooms in this two-storey bungalow all come together to celebrate the craftsmanship. From the hand-carved columns, to the intricate railings, to the mirrored ceilings, it's all done with care and attention to detail. All these elements follow the principles of Wabi-Sabi, combining perfection with imperfection in a beautiful way.
In the daytime, a sunny courtyard welcomes guests to a large outdoor space. But as the night wears on, the atmosphere changes into something magical and cosy. The interiors range from a simple dining room to a gipsy-inspired courtyard, a room with a silver theme, and a black-and-white bar lounge.
Joshi's House offers an eclectic menu
The vibe of the restaurant strongly suggests a traditional Indian atmosphere, however, the culinary selection is not confined. While the menu draws inspiration from traditional Rajasthan eateries, the menu at Joshi House is more modern in style.
Chef Richard D'Souza has a ton of experience with tandoori cooking, so he knows what he's doing when it comes to Indian food. Most of the food here is made right here on the tandoor using locally sourced ingredients.
Overall, the menu deftly combines the best of both worlds. It offers a wide variety of traditional, innovative dishes while seamlessly blending Indian and international flavours. Amongst its many innovative dishes, Vegan Ceviche, Crispy Kachori, and Sweet Potato Shammi Chaat, are some of it's highlighted fusions.
The keema kachori, alongside the burrata paired with tomato gelée, sweet potato shammi chaat, palak saag, and lal maas shanks, have garnered a dedicated following due to their sheer brilliance. Every one of these offerings is inventive, irresistibly flavorful, and incredibly gratifying!
If you're a sucker for sweet things, don't miss out on the chance to try the tiramisu or the ghevar at this much-celebrated Bandra eatery.
