A new project is in the works that will ease travel to and from Mumbai's BKC as well the congestion at prime junctions of this business hub. The driverless Pod Taxi project, which had received the Government's go-ahead back in March, has now also secured the approval from Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA).

In fact, MMRDA has also finalised the Hyderabad-based Sai Green Mobility to design, develop, and operate this Automated Rapid Transit System (Pod Taxis).

Pod Taxis in Bandra Kurla Complex: What do we know as of now?

  • The Pod Taxi project has been inspired by similar pods that operate at London's Heathrow Airport.

  • This new Automated Rapid Transit System in Mumbai is expected to become fully operational in 3 years.

  • These driverless Pod Taxis will provide services every 15-20 seconds and will be connected Kurla and Bandra suburban stations, BKC metro station, and bullet train station, as well.

  • With a seating capacity of 6 passengers, these Pods will travel at a max speed of 40 kmph with stoppages at 38 stations in total.

  • Once operational, this new transport system in Mumbai will benefit over 6,00,000 commuters travelling to and from the Bandra Kurla Complex.

  • As per current reports, the fare on these Pod Taxis in Mumbai will be set at ₹21 per kilometre.
