Mumbai to host Optimist Asian & Oceanian Championship 2022 from Dec 13
The 2022 edition of the esteemed Optimist Asian & Oceanian Championship has yet again returned to India after a gap of 19 years. The week-long event, an international sailing rigatta in Optimist Class, will be held from December 13 to 20, 2022.
Reportedly, the championship is being hosted at the Girgaum Chowpatty in Mumbai, under the aegis of the Maharashtra Gujarat & Goa Area/Army Yachting Node (AYN)

The event is a Continental championship for Asian and Oceanian member nations that are part of the International Optimist Dinghy Association (IODA). This event was last hosted by India in 2003 and has now returned to the country after a duration of 19 years.
Reportedly, a total of 105 sailors, boys and girls up to the age of 15, from 13 countries including the USA, Belgium, Mauritius, Turkey, India and many others from the Asian and Oceania region will take part in the week-long event consisting of a series of fleet races. Furthermore, an international jury constituting of 25 officials from diverse nations has been formulated to judge the races during the event.
The opening ceremony of the event will be held on December 14 at the Yashwantrao Chavan Centre which stands at the Nariman Point of Mumbai. This will be followed by multiple fleet races and a closing ceremony/prize distribution which will be held on December 19.
