Mumbai Weather News | City to undergo moderate downpour today; Orange Alert issued for Wednesday
Mumbai woke up to cloudy skies and light showers on Tuesday morning, setting the stage for a day of intense weather. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts a surge in cloud cover by afternoon, with moderate to heavy rains expected across the city and its suburbs.
While a Yellow Alert has been issued for Tuesday, rains are set to gather pace from Wednesday again, leading to an Orange Alert in Mumbai. Citizens can expect heavy rains in isolated areas till July 26 (Friday), while temperatures are forecasted to range between 24°C and 28°C.
Severe waterlogging, traffic disruptions, NDRF steps up
Mumbai's relentless downpour since Saturday evening has caused severe waterlogging and traffic disruptions, prompting the IMD to issue a Red Alert for Central Maharashtra until July 24. The city and neighbouring districts of Thane, Palghar, and Raigad brace for more heavy downpours, with a high tide alert also in place.
On Monday, areas like Santacruz and Colaba saw up to 35mm of rainfall, affecting local train services. Despite Western Railway's assurance of normalcy, Central Railway faced delays due to signal failures and waterlogged tracks.
The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has deployed teams across Maharashtra, including Mumbai, to assist in emergency operations. Authorities urge residents to stay indoors and avoid coastal areas. The city remains on high alert as it navigates through this monsoon mayhem.
