Mumbai News | Bandra-Versova Sea Link costs skyrocket by 140%; deadline pushed to 2028
The Maharashtra Government has approved a staggering 140% increase in the cost of Mumbai's Bandra-Versova Sea Link project. The revised budget now stands at ₹18,120.96 crore, up from the initial ₹7,502 crore approved in 2017. This exponential rise is attributed to technical changes, expanded scope of work, and delays.
The project, which was executed by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC), has also experienced an extension of its deadline to May 2028. Currently, only 11.66% of the work has been completed.
Once finished, the sea link promises to ease travel between Mumbai's western suburbs and the southern part of the city. However, the project has faced challenges, including objections from the local fishing community.
