Mumbai's first underground metro line, also known as the 'Aqua Line' or the Colaba-Bandra-SEEPZ Line, is slated to begin operations this July. Once phase 1 from Aarey Colony to BKC is made operational, the Metro Line 3 services will be available on a 9.63 km-long stretch.

Overall, covering a distance of 33.5 km, the project will whisk commuters through 27 train stations. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has been awarded the contract for the operation and maintenance of Colaba-Bandra-SEEPZ Metro Line 3 by the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) for a period of 10 years.

Mumbai's underground metro project features a 33.5 km tunnel, that begins at Aarey Colony and encompasses a total of 27 stations, with 26 of them located underground.

The stations include: Cuffe Parade, Vidhan Bhavan, Churchgate, Hutatma Chowk, CST Metro, Kalabadevi, Girgaon, Grant Road, Mumbai Central Metro, Mahalaxmi, Science Museum, Acharya Atre Chowk, Worli, Siddhivinayak, Dadar, Sitaladevi, Dharavi, BKC, Vidyanagari, Santacruz, Domestic Airport, Sahar Road, International Airport, Marol Naka, MIDC, SEEPZ and Aarey Depot.

What are the operating hours of Mumbai Metro Line 3?

Mumbai Metro Line 3 will operate 260 daily services, providing a train every few minutes between 6:30 AM to 11:00 PM. With trains running at speeds up to 90 km per hour, the 35 km journey, which usually takes over two hours by road, will be completed in just 50 minutes by metro.

When will Phase 2 of the project be operational?

The work on phase 2 of Mumbai's first underground metro project, spanning from BKC to Cuffe Parade, is already in the pipeline. It is expected to be completed by the end of 2024. Once flagged off, the entire route is expected to cater to 17 lakh passengers every day.
