After a 15-month wait, Mumbai's Gokhale Bridge is all set to be partially re-opened, Monday evening onwards. The southern arm of this 90-meter bridge, which is a vital east-west connector at Andheri, will be inaugurated today. However, the northern arm of the bridge, on the other hand, will not be accessible till July 2024.

Height disparity delaying work on connecting the two flyovers

However, updates on the Barfiwala 'Y' Bridge flyover that connects Juhu to Gokhale Bridge, are not as pleasant. This connector flyover is expected to remain out of service till the end of 2024. The gap between the height of the two flyovers is the reason why commuters from Juhu will have to wait to use the Gokhale Bridge via Barfiwala.

To find a solution to dispel this height disparity and connect the two flyovers, BMC has appointed Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute (VTJI) as a consultant. Furthermore, IIT Bombay will also be roped in to suggest ways to connect the two flyovers after the VTJI report is submitted.
