If you want to try some authentic Iranian delights, Cafe Mommy Joon in Bandra, is here to satiate your hunger for fancy Irani food! The cafe is a real retreat for traditional Persian cuisine, as every dish has a story that goes back to generations.

The Persian restaurant, named after the Persian phrase for “mother’s love,” is a joint venture between Priya Dutt and the restaurant’s head chef, Seema Sutradain. Read on to know the deets!

MommyJoon's menu

Mommy Joon's exceptional menu includes authentic Iranian dishes that are lesser-known, treasured and passed down through the ages. In addition to its deliciousness, Iranian cuisine is also known for its healthfulness, as most dishes are made with olive oil and yoghurt, and served with dry fruits. Once you are there, we recommend you some of their best 'must try' dishes, which should be there on your bucket list.

Irani Chai

To start with, let's talk about Mommy Joon's Irani Tea. This exotic tea is accompanied by saffron-studded sugar sticks, which create a refreshing taste. The blending of the sugary hot tea coupled with the rich aroma of saffron, simply seals the deal. Honestly, the saffron not only gives colour and aroma to the tea but also plays a vital role in making the drinker happy.

Salad-e-Shirazi

This salad by Mommy Joon is light and refreshing and is a great addition to any meal. It's a Persian classic, that only has three main ingredients - cucumber, tomato, and onion - plus some dry mint with a sprinkle of olive oil and lemon juice. It should definitely be ordered with rich main course options, to balance the palate.

Persian kabobs

Mommy Joon has a great selection of classic Persian Kabobs that are expertly grilled and served with tomatoes, chilli, lemon, and cucumbers. Order any and pair the plate with saffron rice or roti! If you're looking for something special, opt for the tender Joojeh Kabob (beef and chicken breast / leg fillet) or their flavorful kabob Koobidh (beef and ground lamb kabob), to be blown away.

Polow

Polow is a Persian rice dish that's like 'Pulao' or 'Pilaf'. It's a layered dish that uses lots of different ingredients like meat, veggies, fruit, nuts, herbs, and more. So when at Cafe Mommy Joon, you've gotta try the popular 'Zereshk Polow', also called 'jewelled rice'. It's got Persian barberries that give it a really tart flavour, and it looks amazing with all the 'jewels' planted in the fragrant rice.

Akbar + Mashti Baklava

If you’re a dessert fiend, you’re in for a treat. We’re sure you’ll be blown away by the huge selection of authentic Persian sweets on Mom'smy Joon menu. But if you’re looking for something a little sweeter, we’d highly recommend Akbar Mashti + Baklava. It’s crunchy filo layered with nuts and topped with Café Mommy’s signature ice cream, making it a win-win.
