The Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) is gearing up to revive its magnificent boat club on the backwaters of Gangapur Dam, next week. About 16 kilometres from Nashik, this one-of-a-kind boathouse is frequented by residents of nearby areas and is an ideal Mumbai weekend getaway spot.

Due to low water levels before monsoon, MTDC had to shut down the boat house on 1 July. Now that the rains have taken a back seat, MTDC officials have secured the green light from the Water Resource Department to resume activities starting October 15.

A scenic retreat!

This imposing earthfill dam, situated on the River Godavari, serves as a crucial water source for the region. Constructed in 1965 as part of the Godavari Marathwada Irrigation Development Project, it was designed to provide irrigation and drinking water to the nearby drought-prone areas.

As part of the Grape Park Resort, MTDC launched the Boat House in December 2020, and it quickly became a beloved attraction, drawing visitors from Mumbai, Pune and beyond.
