Travel between Mumbai and Indore is about to get faster! The government has approved a new railway line project that promises to cut travel time between the cities. Spearheaded by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, this ambitious project is part of the PM-Gati Shakti National Master Plan.

The project aims to create the shortest rail link between these two major cities, covering 309 kilometres from Indore to Manmad.

Economic growth, job opportunities, and tourism boost ahead

The project, costing ₹18,036 crore, will span six districts across Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh, including constructing 30 new railway stations. This development is expected to generate employment equivalent to 102 lakh man-days, offering a significant economic boost to the region.

This railway line also aims to boost connectivity and economic growth in the region significantly. It will link the Barwani district, connecting around 1,000 villages and benefiting 30 lakh people. The new route is also expected to enhance tourism, offering easier access to popular sites like the Sri Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga Temple in Ujjain.

Additionally, the project will connect the Pithampur Auto Cluster directly to major ports, facilitating smoother transport of goods. It will also streamline the distribution of agricultural products like millet and onions, from key producing districts in Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra.
