The annual Versova Koli Seafood Festival is set to happen next month - an event loved by true-blue Mumbaikars. This seafood festival brings with it a time, wherein one can enjoy a weekend full of food, fun, dance, and music. A visit to this festival is not just a feast for the eyes but also a window into Maharashtra's Koli culture.

‘Dine With The Kolis’

Slated for three days, this annual Versova Kohli Sea Food Festival is only getting bigger and better! Next month, the fest is bringing 25+ fish varieties in more than 40 stalls, for foodies to explore, especially seafood lovers.

Founding member of the festival, Rajhans Tapke, mentioned that the festival was started in 2006. It is a way for Koli folks to connect with the people of Bombay, and spread Kohli music, dance and food culture. Meanwhile, Kolis can earn a bit more by not just selling the catch, but by selling a finished dish which can fetch them more money than raw fish sale.

When there, be prepared to be welcomed fisherfolk dressed in their best, cooking up some of the most traditional koli delicacies. The menu includes freshest catch of fishes such as jawla (dried baby shrimps), seasonal gaboli (raw fish eggs), prawns, lobster, squid and crab. Versova’s famous Bamboo ke Bombil, in curry, made with a special home-ground Koli masala that has 36 spices is a delicacy we definitely recommend to first time visitors. This winter dish is served with rice and roti.

Best part? Here you can indulge in authentic Koli food that you can’t find in restaurants and that too, at throwaway prices. Also, there will also be plenty of folk music that will keep you entertained! Truly, Versova Seafood Festival has become an important item on the itinerary of seafood lovers.  Follow their Facebook and Instagram handles for more updates.
