THIS cafe offers a taste of Bandra in Canada, featuring Elco-style chaats, frankies & more
The nostalgic aroma of home-cooked meals, followed by our mother‘s call of “khana ready hai”, is an emotion beyond words. However, Bandra Cafe in Surrey in British Columbia, Canada, is trying to capture this sentiment, offering a taste of Mumbai to its patrons abroad. Inspired by Bombay's iconic Irani cafes, the menu features classics such as Elco-style chaats, frankies, pan rolls, and more. A visit to Bandra Cafe feels like coming home, and here’s our little take on it.
Behind the Scenes: Chef Raun
Meet Raunaq Singh, affectionately known as Chef Raun, the creative force behind Bandra Cafe’s delicious menu. Hailing from Bandra, Raun brings a deep understanding of Bombay's street food culture and a genuine passion for cooking. In a post he shared “My idea of the cafe is a place to hang out with friends, which I did as a teen in Bombay, where going to a cafe was an everyday routine to catch up on local and world stories.”
A nostalgic journey
Bandra Cafe‘s decor draws inspiration from renowned European aesthetics, featuring dark wooden chairs and white tabletops. Its menu boasts a delightful array of Mumbai’s much-loved dishes including Salli Boti, Kheema Pav, Bun Maska, and Mawa Cake.
All we are saying is that we are immensely proud that the cherished Bandra food has travelled and found love abroad. Follow the Cafe’s Instagram handle for more intriguing content.
