Travel to become more convenient in Mumbai with the addition of new AC local trains

Central Railway has also decided to operate 14 extra AC local trains during the nominated holidays and Sundays

Offering yet another reason of joy to Mumbaikars, the Central Railways division of Indian Railway has now decided to replace the ordinary local trains with air-conditioned coaches on the Main Line. As per the press release issued by the Central Railway, 12 non-AC local train services plying on the CSMT-Kalyan/Titwala /Badlapur route on weekdays, have been replaced with AC services since May 14.

Trains to be swapped from Harbour Line to the Main Line

Since May 5, the prices of AC local trains have been reduced on selected routes in Mumbai, which led to an increase in the demand for this premier service on the Main Line.

As per the reports, the footfall on the AC local trains in Mumbai's main line has increased by more than 55% ever since the authorities revised its fare price. Noticing this, the Central Railways decided to shift the AC local trains from the Harbour Line to the Main Line.

14 extra AC trains to ply on Sundays & nominated holidays

With the addition of the new AC local trains in lieu of the non-AC services, the fleet of 44 trains that runs on the Main Line has now moved up to 56 trains. Notably,14 extra air-conditioned local trains will also ply across the Metropolitan City on Sundays and nominated holidays.

While the total number of daily suburban services on Central Railway will remain the same (1810) on weekdays, the number of trains operating on holidays will increase from the current 1460 to 1474 from May 14.

Post the slash in prices, the popularity of Mumbai AC local trains has grown rapidly, keeping the growth in mind, Western Railway has decided to increase the number of AC local services over the Mumbai Suburban section with effect from May 16.

As per the release, six suburban AC local trains will run in Up and Down direction. In the Up direction, 5 services will run between Virar and Churchgate, and one between Bhayandar and Churchgate. Similarly, in the Down direction, 4 services will run between Churchgate and Virar, one each between Churchgate to Bhayander and Andheri to Virar.
