India is a treasure trove of profound cultures, rich artefacts and history, that dates back thousands of years. Thus, bridging the gap between now and then, Citi-CSMVS Museum on Wheels is a creative initiative taking India‘s tapestry far and beyond.
And different from the usual format, this museum, literally on wheels, will travel to you with artworks and historical objects aboard. This project was primarily undertaken for rural children to have access to the world of art and culture.
A pioneering outreach program for kids!
The Citi-CSMVS Museum on Wheels is a pioneering outreach program, designed to reach parts of suburban Mumbai and further travel into the interiors of Maharashtra. The project houses two large, air-conditioned, state-of-the-art buses, custom designed to safely carry pieces of heritage, art and science.
The collections in the buses have been selected keeping in mind the curricula of the schools. Along with the bus visit, students can engage in activities including interactive demo kits, and art and craft for deeper engagement.
Details of the two current bus exhibitions are as follows:
Bus 1 – 100 years of CSMVS (Centenary exhibition)
On 10 January, 2022, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya Museum (CSMVS) had completed its 100th year. And this exhibition celebrates the Museum’s rich collection and cultural significance.
Bus 2 – In-Tune: The Journey from Sound to Music
This exhibition attempts to draw a bridge between the scientific and aesthetic aspects of music, enabling visitors to interact with various musical instruments.
How to book a slot for the Museum on Wheels?
Step 1. Fill out the booking form that comes with their brochure or write to them at mow@csmvs.in or reach them at 022-2284 4484/4519 and put in a request for a visit.
Step 2. Their Education Team will meet you to do an assessment of the venue and understand your requirements. You can help them plan better by contacting other schools in your neighbourhood, so that they may also benefit from the bus being in their locality.
Step 3. A plan of events will be prepared.
Step 4. The Museum on Wheels will arrive at your doorstep!
