Mumbai's much-awaited first underground Metro Line 3 (Aqua Line), has started its operations today, i.e., July 24. The new underground metro is likely to transform urban transit and reduce traffic congestion. Each upcoming station prioritises the convenience of differently-abled passengers and features a variety of amenities, aimed at improving the accessibility and safety of commuters. 

Today, the first phase of the Mumbai Metro 3 has been rolled out between Santacruz Electronics Export Processing Zone (SEEPZ) and Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC).

Features of Mumbai Metro Line 3

In a recent tweet, Mumbai Metro 3 highlighted several key amenities that will be available at the new stations, to assist differently-abled citizens. These include - braille call buttons and handrails on all three sides in elevators, a comprehensive audio and visual announcement system to keep passengers informed, and emergency buttons for security. Additionally, all lift buttons will be installed at a low level, ensuring accessibility for passengers in wheelchairs.

Slated for completion by the end of December 2024

According to the government, the Aqua Line (Line 3) of the Mumbai Metro is 98% complete, with a revised cost of ₹37,275.50 crore.
