Located in the hills of theSahyadri Mountains (Western Ghats), Rajmachi Fort consists of twin fortresses - Shriwardhan and Manaranjan, surrounded by a wide machi (plateau). This historical fort dates back to the time of the great Maratha ruler Chatrapati Shivaji and bears a connection with the First Anglo-Maratha War. The trek to Rajmachi Fort begins with Udhewadi, a hamlet of 60 households, located at the southern foot of Manaranjan, as the base camp.

This trek is perfect for travellers to indulge in photography, observe untouched wildlife and bird-watching. The trekking trail of almost 14 km takes about 4-5 hours to complete and is dotted by waterfalls, deep gorges and valleys, quaint villages, waterways and much more to feast your eyes on. While you can make the return journey on the same day, it is recommended that you pitch a tent to camp outside the Kondana Caves and relax under a moon-lit sky!

If you aren't a fan or arduous treks, then you can explore the alluring places around Rajmachi which offer a panoramic view of nature. You can visit Valvan Lake to witness the visual delight of abundant majestic waterfalls. The picturesque garden of Ryewood Park is home to several rare and ancient trees is a place you can visit to quench your botanical curiosities.
